Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’ season 3 released on New Year’s and is currently the #1 trending show on the platform. Among all the nostalgia, favorite characters, and, of course, karate, ‘Cobra Kai’ is still telling us more of the story and how these characters became the way they are.
In particular, we learn a great deal about John Kreese (Martin Kove) and his history in season three. We see him as a young man in Vietnam, and the actions that created him as the man he is today. It’s an interesting backstory to a mysterious character and one that I actually really enjoyed.

Perhaps one of the most asked questions though is who is Johnny Lawrence’s real father and fans seem to think it may be none other than Kreese himself! In the Karate Kid fandom site, one fan wrote,
“Just a theory, but does anyone think that maybe John Kreese may be Johnnys real father? It would make for an interesting plot twist in future seasons, and another reason for Kreese to have an interest in both Jonny and his son Robby. It could also explain why Johnny’s mother encouraged Sid to let Johnny take karate lessons as a child. Just a theory… “
This seems to add up, and in fact, a lot of other viewers seem to agree with it. This could be the big fish hook of season four and while Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny team up against Kreese, this could be the chink in Johnny’s armor.
Johnny’s step-father Sid is a wealthy businessman and doesn’t seem to want too much to do with Johnny nowadays. However, we don’t know anything about his real-father, or have even heard anything about him!
How would Johnny react to this news and could it explain the connection between Kreese and Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan)? At the end of season three, we see Robby siding with Kreese.
