’90 Day Fiancé’ spoilers indicate that Armando Rubio really did surprise you, instead of saving his engagement announcement for a later time, or until after the family had gotten to know Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Niedermeier better first, Armando decided to throw them in the deep end by announcing his engagement to them over dinner.
This was after a bit of pushback from Armando’s Dad who didn’t want to come out and see them when he and Kenny first came over. Armando’s Mom tried to smooth things over by going in the house and talking to him, and she did make some headway by getting him to come out and at least greet his son.

However, she was not successful in getting him to stay with the family over dinner. He came out for maybe five minutes, the greet Armando, that was it.
When Armando stood up and announced his enagement to his family, he shocked me. I thought he was going to shut down again but he didn’t. He stood up, announced that he and Kenny were getting married, smiled and put his ring on.
I was so happy for him that he felt safe enough to finally announce to his family that he was being his authentic self with the person that he felt he was most meant to be with. But at the same time, I was so sad for him because instead of being happy for him as Kenny’s family was for him, Armando got a series of long faces and tears.
In their confessional, Armando’s Aunt broke down saying that she put herself in her sister’s place and it broke her heart. Armando’s Mother however, said that her feelings were hurt that he hadn’t discussed it privately with her first.
I sensed hurt from Armando’s Mother, but I also got a reading of a whole load of anger and embarassment coming from her too. She said that she didn’t expect Armando to be engaged. Kenny tried to reassure them that it wasn’t just a spur of the moment thing, that things had been progressing towards this for awhile, but due to the language barrier (which he immediately recognized) he couldn’t really make his case.
Armando can only do so much as a translator, after all, his family thinks his choice is questionable to begin with so they may think that Kenny is ‘coaching’ Armando on what to say, and we know that’s not the case.
I got a little passive-aggressiveness when Armando’s Mom said that she felt nothing and that it was “his choice”. I have a feeling that there’s going to be a whole conversation about that later.
Where my sympathy begins for Armando’s family, is with little Hannah. They have essentially raised little Hannah from when she was a baby, so even though they know that Armando is going to take good care of her, their hearts are breaking because she’s going to be four hours away without any of them.
Little Hannah seemed to be none the wiser and I’m glad because she’s, what, 6? 7? She doesn’t need to worry. All she knows is, she’s going to get to live with her Daddy again and she’s excited about it. No doubt she will miss the rest of her family, but no one’s dying.
And thanks to social media, all of them are just a click away. I hope they all have some form of social media at least. Either way, the announcement was bittersweet, but I’m glad that Armando embraced himself fully. Stay tuned!!!
