’90 Day Fiancé’ spoilers tells that in the states, among very young couples sometimes it is customary to give each other promise rings, where there’s a promsie to get engaged in the future. Jenny from 90 day fiancé deicded that since they can’t get married yet due to Sumit not being divorced, she would buy him a ring and give it to him, signfying their promise of love to one another.
However, Sumit just didn’t really seem to get the concept of this. Keep in mind this promise ring stuff has only been around in the US since like, the late 80’s and me, an old-fashioned southern girl myself even had some trouble wrapping her head around the concept.
’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: Jenny’s Promise Ring falls flat with Sumit
Sumit says that in India, they save the ring ceremony for when they’re actually getting married and they stand up in front of other people and exchange the rings then, not privately. He said that when he did have a ring ceremony, that he wanted it to be in front of his friends and family, not this private one that Jenny was talking about.
Poor Jenny! She was so embarassed, all she wanted to do was give her guy the ring she had bought for him, but Sumit didn’t want it. In a way you have to admire his dedication to holding out for the real deal ceremony, but in a way, what Jenny did was a really sweet gesture, he didn’t have to be so harsh about it.
My guess would also be that Sumit doesn’t want to give his ex-wife any more legal ammo that she can use in the case against him. If she did find out that he was engaged before their divorce was finalized, then she might could be able to go after him for more money, and as we already know from the verbal smackdown he received from his Dad, he’s not about to receive a financial bailout the next time something like this happens.
He’s already $20K in the hole to his Dad, he’s not about to screw it up so that he would potentially have to pay more than what he’s already paying, not to mention the legal ramifications. Who knows, the laws in India might would never give him a divorce if he didn’t jump through every little hoop? Still, on a very human level, I feel for Jenny. Stay tuned!!!
