UFC News: Michael Chandler Signs With The UFC

There was an exciting piece of MMA news that broke this week, as it was revealed that Michael Chandler has signed with the UFC. The decision sent shockwaves around the MMA world, and fight fans have already begun making their dream fights for the former Bellator champion.

It is a moment that UFC fans may have thought would never come, as Chandler has been teased with a move to UFC throughout his career. But, it hadn’t happened until this week. The move was made official this week as Dana White revealed the news during an interview with ESPN.

UFC News: Chandler To Be Back-Up

White wasn’t done with announcing the superstar free agent, as he also went on to reveal that Chandler would serve as back-up for the lightweight championship bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. That bout is scheduled to happen towards the end of October at UFC 254.

It would seem as though there is no way that the huge night of action will be disrupted now, as White will have a huge name to step into the void should one of the fighters be forced to pull out through injury.

It can’t be underplayed how huge the signing is for the UFC, as Chandler had been one of the most fighters in Bellator throughout his career. However, he was made a free agent following his last fight in the company last month.

UFC News: Chandler’s Impressive Professional Record

Chandler brings with him a wealth of experience and success. He has won the Bellator Lightweight World title on three occasions. He successfully defended that title on three occasions, and he holds a wealth of Bellator records.

No other fighter has won more fights by stoppage in the company, while he has also had more title fights than any other superstar in Bellator history. Chandler is also tied with Patricio Fiere for the most wins in Bellator history.

He holds a professional record of 21 wins and five defeats. His last fight in Bellator came in August, as he beat Benson Henderson via KO. Chandler’s last defeat came against Fiere, when he lost the title in the opening round back in May last year.

Chandler has won nine of his fights by knockout and seven through submission. He is certainly a huge name that will add more intrigue to the lightweight scene in UFC.
