UFC 252 Preview: Herbert Burns vs Daniel Pineda- Featherweight

There isn’t much longer to wait for MMA fans until UFC 252, with the action getting underway on Saturday evening. All eyes will firmly be on the main event bout between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier, as the UFC Heavyweight championship will be on the line.

However, before that huge event on a big night for UFC, there is a stacked undercard of talent for fight fans to enjoy. One of the most interesting bouts on the undercard will see Daniel Pineda looking to overcome a huge challenge against Herbert Burns in the featherweight division.

UFC 252 Preview: Burns Looking To Continue Winning Streak

The size of the challenge ahead of Pineda is seismic, with Burns currently in the form of his life. The Blaze has won all of his last five fights in UFC, with his MMA record now reading 11-2-0.

The 32-year-old is yet to lose in UFC, and has won both his previous fights in the company in a commanding fashion. The first of those came against Nate Landwehr on the UFC on ESPN+ 24 card.

Burns was dominant on that occasion as he beat his opponent inside the first round via knee from clinch with 2:43 remaining in the round. He was even more dominant in his next outing in the octagon, as he submitted Evan Dunham inside the first round after locking in the rear naked choke. Burns will rightly be considered the favourite for this bout, but is there any chance of a huge shock?

UFC 252 Preview: Pineda Looking To Overcome Odds

Pineda is the outsider to win the fight, but he does have an esteemed amount of experience within MMA. As well as fighting in UFC, he has also experienced success during his days fighting in EliteXC and Bellator. However, this will be his first fight in UFC since 2014. On that occasion, he was beaten via unanimous decision by Robert Whiteford.

This marked the second straight UFC fight that he lost via that same method. So far throughout his UFC career, he has won three fights and lost on four occasions.

Pineda has most recently been fighting at PFL 8, but both his victories in October against Jeremy Kennedy and Movlid Khaibulaev were overturned as he tested positive for a banned substance. That means that he will go into this fight with a record of 26-13-0 2 NC. It could be a tough night ahead for Pineda.
