Hulu ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ Spoilers: Elena Richardson (AnnaSophia Robb) and Jamie Caplan (Luke Bracey) Next Steps

Hulu ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ spoilers finds that now we get to the meat and bones of this story. While watching Little Fires Everywhere you get the feeling that this is a slow burn episodic TV show and that things will take 22-26 episodes to work themselves out and maybe if this were still the late 90’s the time period that this piece is set in, that would be true. This however is 2020, and we live in a much faster paced world with limited event engagements. So episode 5 puts you WHAM in the middle of 1976 where we see a much younger Elena Richardson (played by AnnaSophia Robb) having the time of her life at a discoteque in Paris. As it turns out she is with her longtime boyfriend, Jamie Caplan (Luke Bracey) and they go back to their Paris apartment and have what looks to be very fulfilling sex.

But for Jamie, it seems that this semester abroad is not just a semester for him. He wants to take his life to the next level and live out this international journalism dream that he has while Elena has dreams of becoming more of a hometown hero. She wants to work at a small newspaper and get married and have a family, but that is far too domestic a dream for Jamie Caplan and he wastes no time in telling Elena that.

Hulu ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ Spoilers: Slow burn? Try backdraft!

We can put two and two together next because when we fast forward to the late 90’s, Elena Richardson (Reese Witherspoon) is as we know her now and she is just super stressed out because her mask of perfection has slipped today. Also, her kids are not shipped off to school yet and Izzy Richardson (Megan Stott) overhears her and Bill Richardson (Joshua Jackson) talk about helping Linda and her husband with their legal troubles with the adoption and Izzy, being the budding SJW that she is accuses them of stealing the baby. Hoo boy, to be 14 again and see everything in black and white.

The Richardson’s aren’t too busy worrying about Izzy’s strong-minded tendencies for once, rather they’re wondering about how Bebe Chow (Lu Huang) could afford a lawyer and then they see the headline about the photography piece that just sold. Of course they don’t put two and two together at first but Izzy does and says that the woman in the picture looks a lot like Mia. Leave it to a kid, eh? Elena scoffs, but Izzy has inside information because she has been to Mia’s house every day after school and has seen this photo being packed up for New York. Izzy burns her Mom by telling her that Mia is in the New York Times and she will never be, and that gives Elena the idea to go jetting off to New York searching for answers.

While Elena is off being a good journalist, she seems to have left her good Mom hat in the laundry somewhere. Lexie Richardson (Jade Pettyjohn) is pregnant and while she tries to discuss this with Mom Elena and Dad Bill Richardson (Joshua Jackson) before Elena leaves, she just doesn’t get very far. So like a lot of teens with repressed conservative parents who never discuss anything with them she ends up at planned parenthood with Pearl Warren (Lexi Underwood) and even ends up using her name for the form because she didn’t want her Mom’s friend who works there getting wind of her having an abortion. One flaw in the logic if 17 year old Lexie’s plan: DID YOU FORGET SHE KNOWS YOUR FACE?!

She then gets Pearl to drive her to her house where even though Mia doesn’t openly judge her for having the abortion itself she does not give her a free pass eother for taking advantage of Pearl’s kindness and telling her after Lexie told her that she has nowhere else to go, that she had plenty of places that she could go and that she has no concept of not having anyone which, is a cold hard truth in Lexi’s case. In the case of Pearl however she is much more the cool Mom. Pearl opens up about having her first time with Tripp Richardson (Jordan Elsass) and Mia gives her some rather golden advice. She tells her that sometimes sex is just sex and that its never just simple, even when we want it to be. That is some wise words right there. She even takes her cool Mom status a step further by letting Pearl and Tripp decide what their relationship status is… but considering the lengths Elena is going to she may kind of regret that decision later.

Meanwhile Elena is in New York and has pulled out all the stops and has even tracked down her old boyfriend Jamie and has had him put out feelers for Mia’s previous identity. As it turns out her last name was not Warren at all, it was Wright. But she had a brother named Warren who died. During their long drawn out conversation, Jamie wants to know if Elena will ever own up to what she did to him. It’s not elaborated on what that is, exactly, but apparently it has nothing to do with their breakup but rather its something else that she did. When Elena doesn’t do it he tells her that it’s not his job make her life better. Dang, at this rate this girl is going to die in the burn unit! Stay tuned!!!
