Eli was left heartbroken after Lani ran away from their own wedding day over a year ago. However, little did he know that Lani was forced to leave him at the altar. That’s because Gabi DiMera at the time threatened to kill Eli’s beloved grandmother Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) with an app that is controlled on her phone. If Lani didn’t comply, all it would have taken was one little push of a button for Gabi to cause as much damage and destruction as possible. As much as Lani loved Eli, she felt as though she had no option but to walk away from the man that she loved so much.
