NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) fans are all asking the same question: did producers of the show make a huge mistake by getting rid of Will Horton (Chandler Massey) and Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith), two characters who happen to be a part of the show’s major legacy families. In fact, many viewers were even shocked by the news. Here’s what you need to know.
Actor Freddie Smith has made it clear that both he and Chandler Massey wanted to stay on the hit NBC soap and that it wasn’t their choice to leave. He explained it this way to his social media fans: “Chandler and I were looking forward to staying on and signing a contract and keep the storyline going but at the same time now that I’ve had time to process the whole thing I do understand that there’s a lot happening with ‘Days of Our Lives’. I know that the past three years, really the past—for as long as we’ve really known, for the past even five or six years, it seems like every year we don’t know if we’re going to get picked up and there are big things that happen. And this year. with talks of streaming services and talks of—there’s so much going on, I have no idea on the upper levels of what’s really happening.”

NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Did Producers Make A Mistake By Getting Rid Of Will And Sonny?
If that weren’t enough, ‘Days of Our Lives’ fans have quite a lot to say about Chandler Massey and Freddie Smith’s firing. Needless to say, a lot of people are none too pleased over this recent turn of events.
Some comments from fans have included, “That’s unfortunate however, the reality is if John and Marlena can get written off, then who is safe on this show? I get that they are big characters currently but things change,” along with, “Too bad, but hopefully they get a happy ending at least if they’re leaving together. There does seem to be a restructuring happening with Rafe out too.”
So, does this mean that the door is permanently closed for Will and Sonny? Not necessarily. Even daytime television fans know that anything can happen at any time. We will definitely keep our fingers crossed in the hopes that the ‘Days of Our Lives’ writers might consider revisiting Will and Sonny’s storyline in the future.
