I’m so excited to talk about this show, so let’s go!

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’: Episode Three Review: A Striga

What would a Witcher be without monsters? Just, mutants with cool potions, I guess. This episode monster comes to us in two forms really. The human, and what he’s created. Geralt hears of another Witcher that was on his way to Temeria, but word has it he took the coin and ran. This peaks Geralt’s attention, as that’s not something a Witcher would do. He heads to Temeria to investigate, only to be turned away by the king, Foltest. Secretly, a mage Triss retrieves Geralt as he’s being transported out of the territory. Determined to find what it taking and eating the miners who work for the king, he returns. Foltest speaks with him, and through conversation, we learn of some pretty terrible things.

The creature that has been haunting the kingdom is a striga, a child cursed that pulled itself from its mother’s womb to hunt. It’s umbilical still hangs from its flesh. The who and why it’s cursed is what’s interesting, as we learn Foltest had fallen in love with his own sister. Together, they had beared a child. Before the child could be born though, his sister was cursed. At night now, their creation haunts the kingdom, feasting on people.

A Striga – By 3 Rooster’s Crows

It sounds like a really big problem. If only there was a guy for this. Ah yes, a Witcher! The Witcher they had hired before Geralt, who supposedly took the money and ran had been killed by this striga. However, instead of telling the townspeople that the creature had bested a Witcher, they told the lie.

Geralt soon discovers it was the king’s right-hand man, who had loved Adda (the king’s sister) and had found out about their affairs. Without ruining Adda’s name, he wanted to get back at the king, for impregnating his sister. Thus, he learned a curse, and cursed the mother, blaming the creature on the king. It’s a bit of an over-drawn plan, but it seemed to be working. Until Geralt could “smell what the king’s partner and sister had done,” on some sheets. After a long drawn out night, and a hell of a fight with the striga, the curse is lifted by not allowing it to return to its crypt by morning. Now, a naked, frightened girl has to learn a new world after being cursed her whole life. I also get my favorite line from Geralt during this fight. Another subtle, but well-used placement of the word, “f**k.”

Episode Three Review: Yennefer, The Beautiful!

Meanwhile, Yennefer is torn between her duties. She was promised to work for the kingdom from where she grew up. However, due to Stregobor’s tampering and using Istredd to discover her quarter elf heritage, it is taken from her. Rather than submitting to the court, and work with Nilfgaard, Yennefer takes matters into her own hands. Wanting to be beautiful and gain her rightful spot, she sees the “artist”. Through a process of powerful magic and surgery, they are able to straighten her spine, fix her jaw and thus, make her nearly irresistible! The downside from all of this? Yenna is unable to bear children now. We are even shown the excruciating process of the removal of her reproductive organs. From the flames, the phoenix shall rise! Yennefer is here to kick ass now!

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ Episode Three: Summary

Geralt once again saves the day. Though he didn’t kill the monster this time! He also meets Triss, the mage who assisted Foltest. She may and will become a powerful ally to Geralt. Yennefer has realized her potential and her powers grow stronger, while Ciri wonders the woods in search of Geralt of Rivia. Where is it that Ciri wondered into that got her friend shot with an arrow? There is more to the story and we will dive into episode four shortly!
