Brazil is still a developing country so Juliana was forced to work in a sweat shop at the tender age of 8. It was not said where she worked or for what company and if any of the merchandise was sold stateside but that was what happened. It was also not detailed why she worked in said sweatshop but one can only assume that her family was very poor and needed the money for survival. Its a sad fact that in some of these countries, children have to get jobs very young to help out their families and in some cases that can turn into child exploitation, like Juliana’s did.
90 day Fiancé Spoilers: Kidnapped by a modeling agency and forced to lose weight
It is not said when she got a modeling contract, but somehow she acquired one. It probably promised a lot more than she was making doing any kind of manual labor and of course, like any young girl would she jumped at the chance to help out her family and see exciting new places. The thing is though, it didn’t turn out that way for Juliana. She was taken to China and left incommunacado by this shady agency for a month, forcing her to lose weight. And in spite of working up to 3 modeling jobs per day for them (shoots can go on for hours, people) she never saw one red cent of her money.

Again, it is not said how she escaped but Juliana posted the story in her own words over on the model manifesto blog, a blog dedicated to exposing exploitation in the modeling industry. She is now a successful, legit model who lives in Europe and she is looking forward to coming to the US and switch gears in her career – Juliana wants to become a doctor! Honestly, now that she has told her story, I don’t think you can get anymore real than that. In all the footafe that we have seen in 90 day fiancé so far, Juliana seems like a very sweet person and we here at DSD wish her all the luck in the world accomplishing her dreams.
