‘Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: Eric Vanderway (Jon Briddell) Comes To Genoa City, Just Who Exactly Is He? Here’s What You Need To Know!

‘Young and The Restless’ (Y&R) Spoilers finds that it looks like Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson)  wasn’t just hatched from a pod. As it turns out, he has a Daddy and said Daddy is headed to Genoa City to be played by none other than actor Jon Briddell. Bridell was born on March 10th, 1966 making him a Pisces! He started his career in 1989 in Chicago in 1989 by starring in sketch comedy shows. From there he moved to Los Angeles in 1993 where he got his first role as a Burglar in the movie Copykill starring Sigourney Weaver. He has also been on such TV shows such as Criminal Minds, CSI Miami, the 2008 version of Knight Rider, and Castle.

‘Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: Eric Vanderway (Jon Bridell) Comes To Genoa City, What Does It Mean For Theo? Here’s What You Need To Know!

So far, Theo has been lending a shoulder to cry on to Summer Newman (Hunter King) who recently lost her own Father, or so she believed, but we all know that was a big giant ruse by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in order to catch son Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) in the act of being a terrible person. So while Theo’s intentions were pure in helping Summer out, it looks like he can’t relate to what she’s going through at all – or can he?

‘Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: Eric Vanderway comes to Genoa City!

Theo Vanderway has previously said that his own Father was dead and provided some details about it, and while he could have been lying about that, as  Theo is generally a pretty shady dude, but there’s also a chance that, if the death happened prior to the age of 18 that maybe Theo wasn’t even remotely responsible for the lie.

Maybe, just maybe, his Dad faked his own death and skipped out on the family or maybe his Mom or whomever his guardian was just kept the truth from him. I’m not saying it’s right but there are some.parents who do that in order to shield their child from the awful truth, that Daddy just didn’t want to come home.

‘Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: A coverup?

However Theo Vanderway looks like the type of guy who didn’t have that much guidance growing up. Could he have been playing up the dead Dad card for sympathy or maybe to get with Summer? After all, misery loves company and if he wanted Summer and saw that she was in a delicate situation. As a result, he wanted to say, grease the wheels a little, then he could have very well concocted a story about how his Dad died and he didn’t have anyone to help him through his own difficult time so if Summer ever needed anyone he would be there for her, for anything that she needed. Ahem. However that would be a little cliche. So let’s explore some options that wouldn’t automatically make Theo a bad person and would explain the reason that his Dad was absent.

‘Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: His Dad had to leave – literally

Sometimes people get into situations that make them have to disappear for awhile. Whether that be cases of, say, being a government informant, or just disappearing from the view of high profile crime bosses on their own, sometimes you just have to get gone. In a best case scenario, we’re going to assume that Theo’s Dad had to skip town to get out of the way of some mafiosa, but it would have been too big of a risk to re-locate his family along with him so he ‘died’ in their life and just started a brand new life somewhere else.

Given the state of how the Federal Witness Protection program actually works, this is highly unlikely because they would be dedicated to protecting all members of the informant’s family, but since this is fiction perhaps someone somewhere let some paperwork slip. However there’s also the possibility that Theo’s Dad just neglected to tell them that he had a family, or maybe he was married to the mob and just wanted to get out. There’s literally dozens of possibilities.

However, Theo Vanderway doesn’t really strike me as the type of guy who had all that much guidance growing up, so, another possibility is that he wanted to pretend that his Dad was dead because of one word – baggage. Maybe his Dad has some epic problems that Theo himself was trying to outrun. It’s a possibility, considering the things that he and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) were into in New York, that his Dad could have had, say, a drinking problem or a gambling problem and when he came to Genoa City it was just easier to pretend his Dad was dead and sweep those problems under the rug and not deal with them rather than tell people the truth and face these demons head on.

Theo is still a relatively young guy and depending on just how young he actually is, sometimes it takes a little while to come to terms with the scars of our past. Maybe he just needed some breathing room to get away from whatever his Dad was into. Whatever the case, he better get a good whiff because the day of reckoning is coming.

‘Young and The Restless’ Spoilers: It’s not his Dad at all

There’ also the possibility that this new guy, Eric Vanderway, isn’t Theo’s Dad at all but perhaps an older brother. No siblings have been mentioned so far and Kyle didn’t mention having met any when they were friends so maybe there’s a divide there. In cases like this it’s usually a case of one sibling having been favored over the other one, maybe Eric was the favored older brother and Theo was the younger, wilder, ‘black sheep’ of the family. There’s also the possibility that it could be an Uncle (Less likely, but possible) or an older cousin but the most likely possibility is that this guy is his Dad or Brother. It would be hilariously funny if the guy just showed up and they were like “Oh, no relation.” but that’s not the way soaps work and we all know that. Ha!

This is all just speculation, Bridell’s first airdate is Nov. 7th, so Theo’s day of reckoning his coming up quickly. To see what actually happens between these two, if there’s an explosively good or bad reunion we’ll all just have to stay tuned!!!
