‘Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: What Happened To Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) On Y&R?

‘Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers indicate that it was sad day for Y&R fans everywhere when Doug Davidson( Detective Paul Williams) was let go from Y&R last year. Things went back to normal after the firing of Mal Young, and the cavalcade of old vets returned: Doug, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and out went most of the Rosales family. And although fans are glad to have the old vet back, it seems some have noticed he has suffered a decrease in airtime recently. Here’s what you need to know.

‘Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) Spoilers: What Happened To Doug Davidson (Paul Williams) On Y&R?

Late last year, it was confirmed via twitter when a fan asked if he had been let go – to which Davidson responded, “It seems so.”. It seems that the reason for Davidson being fired is that the Y&R writing team at the time decided to take a new direction with the series and unfortunately, Detective Paul Williams was a foreseeable part of that future.

That was a grave mistake, and might have been one of the final nails in Mal Young’s coffin. Paul Williams returned to much acclaim and was cheered by the masses of Y&R fans when he fired Rey Rosales on the spot for abusing his power. It was a retour de force so to speak, a return to former glory – and boy was it glorious, even if slightly misguided. But regardless, the show is about entertainment and we sure did get it.

Davidson has been with the soap since 1978, he started off as a bad boy. He was with Nikki Reed for a time, but they broke up when Greg Foster caught her eye. (Also, there was a whole debacle in which Paul apparently gave Nikki an STD which didn’t make him look all that great.) He moved onto April Stevens, whom he had a child with, Heather, in spite of his wishes that she abort the baby. Then apparently he and Nikki joined a cult together and had to be rescued by his brother, Steven.

Paul began to focus on his detective career but definitely still walked on the wild side. He’s had gals take bullets for him, was an unwitting nude centerfold once (wow), he ended up falling for his best friend’s wife and then said best friend killed himself and framed him for the crime, prompting Paul to go into hiding until the real killer was found.

At one point, Paul discovered that his mentally unstable sister was in town and he had to go after her when she went on a crime spree. His son returned to town at one point as well and Paul had to end up shooting him so that he wouldn’t kill Eden Baldwin. It looks like the only mentally stable child Paul has was his daughter, Heather. (And to believe, he didn’t want her around!)

He reunited several times with Nikki, and then Christine (both of whom have a long and storied past as well), he is currently still married to Christine and is active Chief of Police at the Genoa City PD. But it remains to be seen for how much longer. Y&R spoilers tease that he won’t be there for that much longer, but a new replacement hasn’t yet been found. Although it’s possible that things will change in the near future.
