Days of Our Lives Recap Monday, February 25: The Mayoral Debate Gets Ugly – Ben Struggles

Days of Our Lives Recap Monday, February 25:

Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) continues to struggle with his actions while Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) shows kindness, Claire Brady (Olivia Rose Keegan) may be the next one to be sent away, and the mayoral debate gets ugly. In case you missed all the Days of Our Lives spoilers, we’ve got some highlights in today’s Days of Our Lives recap.

Facing demons

Ben’s still hurting from the things Jordan Ridgeway (Chrishell Hartley) said to him before she left for Bayview. He thinks that maybe Hope was right about him. Hope assures him that she doesn’t believe that’s the case, and will be eternally grateful he saved Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal). What’s more, she’s not going to recommend any charges against him. Ben seems a bit taken aback by that kindness. There’s one thing, however, that he’s been struggling with today. He doesn’t get what happened to make Jordan lose it the way she did. Hope tells him about the accident and Ben is visibly shocked and hurt by that. The hits just keep on coming for him…

The bright side is, he’s a free man and leaves the station. The question is—what’s Ben going to do with this second chance? What’s more… what happens if other news gets out regarding the original fire that almost killed Ciara?

Not so fast…

So, we ended last week with a major cliffhanger: Claire flashed back to setting the fire while Ciara lay in bed, recovering from that motorcycle crash. She can’t take the reminder of what she did anymore and spills all. Tripp Dalton (Lucas Adams) is furious, as is Ciara. She wants to know why Claire did it. Claire admits she got Ciara’s location once Ciara’s phone came on and went there with every intention of being the big hero for once. She apparently snapped at seeing Ciara and decided she didn’t want to lose to her anymore, so it was best to get Ciara out of her way. Wow. We can’t even. She apparently had a change of heart partway to her car and ran back, but Ciara had already been saved by the time she arrived. Surely someone’s going to call the cops now, right?

Nope. We learn that Claire confessing was a daydream. For her sake, she better pray that never gets out. We can just imagine how Ben is going to react if he learns the truth.

Political warzone

The mayoral debate is on, and Melina Trask (Laura Kai Chen) isn’t pleased to learn Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) is moderating the event. Jennifer says she is a journalist and knows how to be impartial. After some minor bickering between Abe Carver (James Reynolds) and Melinda, they begin. Abe takes the high road with his opening statement and talks about what an honor it is to serve the city. When it’s Melinda’s turn, she gets ugly. She nails Abe on the Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) thing, to which Sheila Watkins (Tionne Watkins) takes exception. She gets up in front of the town and takes full responsibility for what happened. Melinda tries to use Sheila’s past against her, but Abe shuts things down by saying that everyone deserves a second chance. He also refuses her resignation.

The debate is getting so ugly that Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva) have had enough. She gets up and throws the immigration question out there. When Melinda tries to wiggle out, Jack steps up. He demands that she answer a reasonable question from a citizen. And you can totally see Melinda squirming… and may be wondering what is behind this. When Melinda answers the question by saying she takes a hard stand, Eve points out how interesting that is, considering her sister is an illegal immigrant. Oops. And things just got real.

Back at JJ Deveraux’s (Casey Moss) place, he and Hayley Chen (Thia Megia) are watching the big event on TV. She feels the need to support her sister in the only way she can. This turns out to be very bad for JJ, as the whole thing is caught on camera, and she’s not looking happy. What we wanna know is, what’s up with Jack backing this up? He was so worried about his fragile relationship with JJ, and now he’s just blown all trust. The fallout is going to be epic.
