Jennifer Lawrence says that she grew up as a Republican in Kentucky but it’s President Donald Trump who forced her to turn her back on the Grande Ole Party. The Hollywood actress recently made her comments on the ‘Absolutely Not’ podcast, where she talked about her voting history and why she decided to endorse former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris. Here’s what she has to say.
Jennifer says that while she’s voted red in the past, she’s now a firm blue. The actress says that while she once saw “the fiscal benefits of some of the Republican policies,” she says that the part’s social policies don’t alight with her views and that’s why she “changed [her] politics based on the things [she] learned.”

“I grew up Republican. My first time voting, I voted for John McCain,” she shared of the 2008 presidential election. “I was a little Republican.” However, Jennifer says that it was Donald Trump’s election win in 2016 that changed everything for her.
“This is an impeached president who’s broken many laws, and has refused to condemn white supremacy, and it feels like there has been a line drawn in the sand,” she said. “I don’t think it’s right … it just changes things for me.”
