British royal family news finds that fans were left in tears on Thursday evening as the emotional Prince William documentary aired on the BBC. The documentary was called ‘Football Prince William and Our Mental Health’. The 60-minute documentary saw viewers delve deep into various forms of mental health issues, and people that are suffering from them.
The documentary was filmed over a 12 month period, with William working hard to entice the Football Association, Premier League and EFL to take greater steps to ensure that they are able to look after players better. As well as regular people, William also spends time talking to professional players that have faced issues of their own.

Very early on in the documentary, Prince William talks openly with ex-England international Joe Hart. Hart was dropped from the England set-up after suffering a bad run of form. He was sold by Manchester City, and now is second choice at Burnley. He revealed when talking to William that he found himself in a dark place as things got on top of him at the height of his career.
Hart revealed to William that the organisers should do more to look after players and gear them up for how they can deal with negative press and bad performances. Marvin Sordell’s story was also a heart-wrenching one, as the former Watford striker was forced to retire at 28 as he was unable to deal with his depression any longer. Sordell believed that he was dropped from the starting line-up on occasions due to his mental health.

Sordell admitted that he tried to commit suicide as he couldn’t see a way out. He and William also had a heartwarming exchange when talking about their adjustment to fatherhood. Sordell revealed that his father not being there for him made him question himself, before asking William for advice. William admitted that he suffered with mental health issues when Diana died, before Sordell revealed that she would be proud of the man that he has become.
There were also a number of fans involved, with viewers introduced to Sands United. They are a team formed of fathers that have lost their children, and they promote the importance of talking about their problems. Men in the UK are three times more likely to commit suicide than a woman. Prince William is trying to open the conversation and this documentary is a vitally important piece of television that could begin to get men talking about their issues.
