The Friends Reunion special was supposed to happen on May 25th along with the debut of the new HBO Max online streaming service but the coronavirus managed to scrap those plans just like it did for everything else in the entertainment and television world. Even though there were some talks about filming the episode in an empty studio, Variety now says that the reunion will most likely get a fall premiere date. Here’s what you need to know.
“At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it’s going to be far longer than that,” Bob Greenblatt, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman, told the outlet. “We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production.”

And while many beloved television casts such as The Office have been reuniting on video technology apps such as Zoom, Greenblatt wants to hold off on the idea as he believes that having a studio audience present for the first Friends reunion in almost 15 years would definitely be worth waiting for.
He added, “We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn’t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms.”
With that said, it’s without a doubt that fans are willing to wait a little be longer to see this epic reunion take place with the audience that it deserves. As a matter of fact, this might be exactly what fans – and the general public – need as far as a good and positive pick-me-up after spending the last several months in coronavirus quarantine.
