NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers say that if there’s one thing that we’ve learned about Stefan DiMera over the last several years, it’s that he’s had two portrayers who have had to very different takes on the character. One was more dark and broody while the other one was more classy, polished, and refined. At least, that’s the way the producers and writing team at ‘Days of Our Lives’ see it. Of course, we are talking about actors Tyler Christopher and Brandon Barash. Here’s what you need to know!
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, ‘Days of Our Lives’ head writer Ron Carlivati offered this, “Brandon stepped in a recast for Stefan and was a very different Stefan than the character Tyler Christopher created, and so when he first came on, we as a group of the writers and producers, were just not sure where that story was going to go. Ultimately, and for story reasons, as well, we killed him off. Of course, by the time it aired, we saw so much more for Gabi and Stefan as Brandon, and people seemed to really love the couple.”

Carlivati said that because so many people loved seeing Gabi and Stefan together, he felt as though he had to bring back Brandon to help continue the momentum between them. He further explained, “We wondered if we could possibly recapture the magic with Gabi, so we decided to bring Brandon back, ultimately. And the question became, ‘Do you bring him back as Stefan?’ Look, this is a show where Rolf can just inject you and you can pretty much just come back from the dead; however, in that story, Stefan was pronounced braid dead by Kayla Brady, and that’s very real. It’s a soap opera. If we decided to make this Stefan, then this would be Stefan. We decided to explore the idea of is this Stefan or is this not Stefan?”
