More about Prince Andrew and his connection to an alleged Chinese spy, Yang Tengbo, was detailed in documents released in court earlier today.
Senior Aide To Prince Andrew Claimed The King Had Two Meetings With Tengbo
King Charles was dragged into the row after documents claimed he had been personally briefed about an investment fund involving a spy.
Andrew’s senior aide, Dominic Hampshire, who was prohibited from Britain on national security grounds, claimed the King had two meetings with Tengbo and Andrew between December 2023 and May last year.
Hampshire, Andrew, and the King mulled over what the disgraced prince could do after he was rejected from other business opportunities due to his involvement with known sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Yang was involved in a renewable energy project called the Eurasia Fund, which never came to fruition. There is no evidence that Charles knew of any security concerns pertaining to the alleged agent.
Hampshire made a statement in support of Tengbo after he petitioned the Special Immigration Appeals Commission over the decision to ban Tengbo from the UK “because his presence posed a threat to our national security.”
Buckingham Palace said that King Charles and Prince Andrew both met with Hampshire over the past year to discuss proposals for independent funding. However, Tengbo’s name was never mentioned. Tengbo had also gone by the name Chris.
Hampshire claimed that he never saw a “red flag” with Tengbo. The royal family was helping the duke look for viable financial options after he was forced to give up his royal patronages, and he also paid off his sex assault victim, Virginia Giuffre, to settle the case out of court.
The Duke Is Described As “A Valuable Communication Point For China”
The late Queen’s private secretary, Sir Edward Young, said that security services had raised concerns. The concerns were over Andrew’s relationship with Yang Tengbo. Hampshire asked him,
“We’re doing quite a lot of work with Chris. What do you expect me to do with this information?”
“Chris” was seen as the only hope the Duke of York had of regaining financial freedom and
“the only light at the end of the tunnel for him.”
Sir Edward said there was “no plan B” for Andrew. Hampshire said he made it clear that if he were given information about Tengbo that could negatively affect Andrew, he would cut communication.
Intelligence services later contacted him for a meeting in which they told Andrew that they had “concerns about Chris.” Hampshire was also asked how much influence “Chris” had over the duke.
He described the duke as a “valuable communication point with China.” Hampshire admitted that Andrew had no other options than Yengbo due to his status as the royal pariah. After his infamous Newsnight interview, Andrew’s negative image was said to be irreparable.
Tengbo was also invited to Andrew’s 60th birthday party, as Andrew’s situation was dire and the disgraced royal was desperate.
Hampshire admitted that once the duke was warned to stop all contact with the Chinese businessman, he complied.
Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that the King has long been worried about how his brother, Andrew, has been funding his living arrangements.
The relationship between Charles and Andrew has been strained for years, especially since he’s been refusing to vacate the Royal Lodge at the King’s request.
