In a devastating turn of events, six-year-old Mia Rosalie Monreal is fighting for her life in a Jacksonville hospital following a catastrophic car accident.

The collision occurred during a police pursuit of Ryan Routh, a suspect in an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The tragic accident has left Mia in a coma, her family grappling with the uncertainty of her recovery.

Mia’s mother, Norka Pardo, has shared her heartbreak and hope as her daughter remains unresponsive in the hospital. “She’s not waking up at all,” Pardo told local station WPTV through tears. “They have to give her medication to help her brain restart.”

Footage from the hospital paints a grim picture: Mia is hooked up to numerous machines, her small body fighting to heal. Despite some slight movements, such as opening her eyes briefly, doctors have seen no meaningful response. “I don’t even know if she remembers me or knows who I am,” Pardo admitted, her voice trembling with emotion.

    The Day of the Crash

The nightmare began on Interstate 95 in Florida, where Mia was traveling with her mother, her mother’s boyfriend, and her younger brother. As police closed down the interstate to apprehend Routh, a high-speed chase ended in the devastating crash that critically injured Mia.

Norka recalls the moments of chaos and fear. “All I could think about was my kids. The nurses were trying to calm me down, but my mind was only on my children,” she said.

Prior to the crash, Mia was a vibrant, energetic little girl who dreamed of becoming a gymnast. Now, her family is clinging to the hope that her strength and resilience will see her through.

    A Family Torn Apart

The accident has upended the family’s life. Originally from Port St. Lucie, Norka has relocated 230 miles to Jacksonville to stay by Mia’s side. This distance has forced her to leave her two other children behind, creating a painful separation. “It’s so hard not being there for my other kids,” Pardo said. “I was always overprotective, and now I have to let go because I need to be here for Mia.”

The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family as they navigate this challenging time, covering medical bills and travel expenses.

    A Family Divided by Circumstance

The accident has fractured the family in more ways than one. The Monreals, who are from Port St. Lucie, have been forced to temporarily relocate due to Mia’s hospitalization over 230 miles away in Jacksonville. Norka, who remains at Mia’s side every day, finds herself torn between her critically injured daughter and her other two children at home.

“It’s incredibly hard,” she admitted. “I’ve always been a protective mom, and now I have to rely on others to take care of my oldest and my youngest. It breaks my heart not being there for them, but Mia needs me right now.”

The emotional and financial toll has been immense. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help support the family during this challenging time, allowing Norka to stay close to Mia without the added burden of financial strain.

The Pursuit That Led to Tragedy

The crash unfolded in September during the pursuit of 58-year-old Ryan Routh. Routh, suspected of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, fled the scene in a car after a Secret Service agent fired at him. The chase led authorities to Martin County, where traffic on I-95 was halted to apprehend Routh. It was during this shutdown that the collision occurred, forever altering the Monreal family’s life.

On Wednesday, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced that Routh now faces an additional charge of attempted felony murder in connection with the crash. While justice is being pursued, it brings little solace to Mia’s family.

“None of this will bring back what we’ve lost,” Norka said. “She’s still in the hospital. We’re still living this nightmare. I just want him to face the consequences of what he’s done.”

    A Community Rallies Together

As Mia continues her fight for survival, the Monreal family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from their community and beyond. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers have come together to offer financial aid, prayers, and emotional support.

“It’s a miracle she’s still alive,” Norka said. “We have so much gratitude for everyone who’s helping us, but the hardest part is not knowing if she’ll ever be the same again.”
