King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William attended an event at Edinburgh Castle for the 900th anniversary of the city of Edinburgh.

Charles And Camilla Each Enjoyed A “Dram” Of 52 -Year- Old Whiskey

King Charles and Queen Camilla were treated to a ceremonial greeting before they entered the Castle.

Charles and Camilla received an official welcome to Edinburgh Castle, as artists presented a Bollywood-style dance for them. It was very authentic, as a group of Scottish women with an Asian heritage danced to bagpipe music. Visitors heard King Charles say, “I liked the bagpipes.”

Charles spoke with dancer Eshita Danouri and exclaimed, “This is our way of paying homage to our roots and recognizing our Scottish heritage.”

The City of Edinburgh played a piece written for the King, “King Charles III Welcome To Edinburgh Castle,” as he and Camilla rode up the hill to Crown Square.

Charles and Camilla were enthralled with the 52-year-old whiskey they drank at the Palace. It was a couple of “drams” of Macallan single malt Scotch whiskey.

Camilla, who was ahead, waited for Charles to join her, as she knew he would want to partake in the festivities.

After giving a generous sip of the potent liquor, Camilla said, “That hit the spot. That hit the spot.”

A director of the whiskey firm who attended the event said, “Charles was over the moon about the whiskey.” Charles is a big fan of whiskey and has been known to take his favorite drink everywhere.

His usual whiskey is a Laphroaig 15-year-old Scotch, described as “a pungent smoke and seaweed Islay dram.” Rumor has it that he also likes to keep a special glass when he travels.

Charles Cut A Decadent Fruit-Filled Birthday Cake

The royal couple met some of the people of Edinburgh, including celebrity broadcaster Gail Porter, who said,

“Edinburgh is a beautiful, stunning place; we’ve got a castle, we’ve got a palace, we’ve got the royal mile, and people are so extremely friendly.”

The King and Queen also met authors Ian Rankin and Alexander McCall Smith, who wrote the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Series. On Tuesday, Charles inducted him into the Order of the Thistle.

The event also featured stalls dedicated to Scottish business and culture and a merino wool producer who brought sheep to the event.

To round out the 900th birthday of Edinburgh, the King cut a decadent fruit-filled birthday cake created by Great British Bake-Off winner Peter Sawkins from Edinburgh.

The celebration started earlier that morning when the King inducted Queen Camilla into the Order of the Thistle. The King’s younger brother, Prince Edward, was also inducted on his 60th birthday yesterday. It marked an extraordinary occasion.

Prince William, known as the Duke of Rothesay north of the border, attended the ceremony, but Princess Kate is at home recovering from her cancer treatment.

Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward’s wife, also attended. Princess Anne was absent after an incident with one of her horses.

King Charles has been a member of the Greatest Order of Chivalry in Scotland.  It is better known as the Order of the Thistle since 1977, when he was just 29 years old.
