Rob McElhenney, star of “Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” wasn’t going to let a simple awards ceremony get in the way of his and his team’s playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.

During the ceremony, the actor cleverly used his phone to listen into the game, as his co-star and wife Kaitlin Olson captured in a selfie. Her caption read, “Who schedules the Emmys the same night as the @eagles #gobirds #FlyEaglesFly,” cleverly brought attention to the unpleasant scheduling conflict.

Unfortunately for Rob, the action on the field was not happy, as Baker Mayfield led the Bucs to an unexpected 32-9 victory that eliminated the defending NFC champions from the postseason.

Rob was perhaps even more disappointed by the game because it might have been the last of future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce’s remarkable career.

Rob had cause for celebration this awards season, even though the Eagles were unable to win the Lombardi Trophy in 2024. Five Emmys were won by his program “Welcome to Wrexham” out of six nominations. Regarding “Sunny,” the ensemble used the stage as a platform to make lighthearted remarks about the show’s lack of Emmy nominations over its 16-year existence, in spite of its enormous popularity. Although the defeat may have depressed Eagles supporters, at least the sun always shines in Philadelphia!

Fans reacted to the post saying, “not a single person on this planet (who happens to exist) watches the emmys. amen.”, “You probably are gonna be happier you missed it with how bad the Eagles have been playing”, “The same psychos that scheduled the golden globes during a laker clipper game and a dolphins bills game” and “I hope for Rob’s sake that he focused on the awards show by about the 3rd quarter. Also, his wife is an absolute beaut! He winning on and off the screen.”
