Dominic West recently explained on Times Radio how Prince Harry stopped talking to The Crown star who played Prince Charles on the show after he revealed the Duke’s offensive behavior to journalists.
The Walking Wounded Charity Trip
West went on an Antarctic charity trip during an event called Walking with the Wounded in 2013. The trip was for injured soldiers, and some were double amputees.
The trip was a race to the South Pole, as Prince Harry and Dominic West joined three teams of wounded service personnel to trek on this expedition.
They had to work in inclement conditions and pull heavy sleds. It was 200 miles across the Atlantic. They arrived at the South Pole in December 2013. Harry and West bonded over their shared experience.
West talked about how he and Harry celebrated their adventure by drinking champagne from a serviceman’s prosthetic legs.
After West exposed Harry’s faux pas, he abruptly cut ties with the Crown actor. Dominic said Harry’s reaction was ridiculous, as he threw a hissy fit and never spoke to Dominic again.
West and Harry used to be chums, but that friendship no longer exists. Harry felt Dominic should not have commented about something like that and was very upset with him.
Even though the Duke was a fan of The Crown until it portrayed his mother, Princess Diana’s death, he ceased talking to Dominic after the press conference in which he shared this tidbit with journalists.
Dominic had told the journalists about the whiskey drinking from the prosthetic leg, but he also said that Harry was such a cool guy and “very much part of the team.” He would spend time helping each team every day.
Dominic West Had Warm Words About Harry
The actor had this to say about Harry,
“He would often reach the meeting point before the rest of his men and build these incredibly lavish, castellated latrines, with battlements and loo roll holders. It must have taken him at least 40 minutes to build them; they were fabulous. I would often sit on the latrine thinking, this is a royal flush in every way.”
West continued to say that Prince Harry helped him with his skis and how wonderful Harry was. But then he shared too much.
He said that
“he and Harry went on a two-day bender and drank with some truck drivers who brought a powerful brew with them.”
West also remarked that Harry told many “rude jokes” and made everybody laugh. Dominic admitted to saying too much at a press interview, and he and Harry didn’t talk after that.
Harry was more serious at the press conference. He reflected on how the Invictus Games are an important cause, and he had this to say at the time,
“Inspiring others is one of the cornerstones of charity. The unbelievable achievement by everyone behind me will remind everybody that they can achieve anything they want. Our wounded, injured, and sick service members want to be treated the same way as before they were injured. With respect.”
After the press conference, Harry and Dominic were on the outs.
