The All-American Rejects are a rock band that formed in 1999 and hit it big in the early 2000s thanks to lead singer and bassist Tyson Ritter. They released a string of hits like “Dirty Little Secret”, “Move Along”, “It Ends Tonight” and perhaps most notably “Gives You Hell.”
However, Ritter had a bit of second guessing after they wrote “Gives You Hell” thinking it was bad, and that the record company wasn’t going to go for it. During an interview with TunaonToastwithStryker, Ritter recalled, “So I remember what we wrote ‘Gives You Hell’ immediately being afraid, like oh s–t. This is bad. This is bad, bad. Isn’t that funny?”
The All-American Rejects Lead Singer Tyson Ritter Was AFRAID Of This Song Before It Released
Ritter continued to explain, “I’m afraid of this, why am I afraid of this? It was a really weird experience. I remember being up, you know, at night, going f–k, I can’t stop singing this in my head. Which is usually a good sign.”
At the end of the day, the song was obviously released and became one of their biggest hits. It’s a bit of a spiteful song aimed at those who didn’t think they would be successful, but that’s also what made it so endearing for so many people.
It’s crazy to think that Ritter was afraid of this song, and we nearly never got to hear it. Viewers reacted to his story saying, “I get it. That’s cool the guy has a conscience and still the courage to tell the truth. I’m all about this clip.”, “& the song still made him a legend
The band is still touring, and they’ll be everywhere from Brazil, to the United Kingdom and Las Vegas in 2024.
