Ridge could not allow his adoptive father to suffer a loss in what could be his last hurrah. There was no legitimate reason to tell Eric that he lost the showdown. Doing so would have at least dampened his spirits if not sent him into a depression. Instead, he feels his legacy has been furthered as hoped.

Seeing Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis) try to keep Eric contained is painstaking. He grows weaker by the day, with his coughing spells increasing. And the expulsion of blood underscores the severe nature of whatever his condition is.
The audience has not been provided with the details of Eric’s health diagnosis. That seems purposeful, as not defining it enables him to die within six months, be given an indefinite reprieve through various realized events, or enjoy a miracle cure.
It is excellent that Eric has Donna by his side. She is devoted to her honey bear but cannot contain his exuberance, which should lead to a collapse at some point in the plot.

It is natural for Ridge to want to prevent Eric from ever knowing about the secret. However, viewers know that the atmosphere at Forrester Creations is very chatty.
The above implies that Eric will overhear any people in the know reference Ridge winning the showdown. That could happen at the fashion house, where people often talk about personal matters rather than working.
Secrets are rarely kept on the soaps. So, questions about when and how Eric learns the truth are apt. When that happens, he will be devastated and angered. That type of trigger would set off the already tottering co-founder of FC on B&B.
