The final season of “The Crown” will prove to be a somber one. The last installment of the biopic depicts Diana’s final weeks as she goes to Paris on her final journey.
The Day Princess Diana Was Killed
Thursday, November 16, will be the beginning of these episodes. Diana and her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, were senselessly killed in an auto accident on August 31, 1997, in Paris when the paparazzi were ferociously chasing after them.
Diana is played brilliantly by Elizabeth Debicki, who is the spitting image of the late Princess. She said that filming the scenes leading up to her death was “heavy and very manic, and incredibly invasive.” The actress added, “It was difficult to recreate.”
While most people have accepted that Diana’s death was an accident, there are still some who speculate. There are several theories about how and why she died.
Some people think that the royals had her killed so that Charles could marry Camilla.
There is also some evidence that suggests Diana suspected she would be killed. Or, maybe, it was just as it seemed.
It was a horrible, tragic accident that left Prince Harry and Prince William without their beautiful mother.
“The Crown” will tackle the Princess’ car crash, and they did their best to make it as tasteful as they could under the circumstances.
The Series Tries to Handle Diana’s Death Sensitively
The Netflix series received some backlash for dramatizing an event that was deeply personal and devastating for many people.
Jonathan Pryce, who plays Prince Philip, said he “could not stop crying” after filming the scenes. He explained that the whole thing was like waking up and listening to the radio announcer telling everyone that Princess Diana had died.
The show tries to be sensitive about the ordeal and how the royal family reacts. There are apparently some very controversial scenes in which (then) Prince Charles has an emotional moment with Diana as they were bringing her body from Paris to London.
The show was wise not to recreate the exact moment of her death, but it does have some scenes that may be too much for the royal family to watch.
Diana’s death sent shockwaves throughout not just Britain but everywhere. She was “The People’s Princess.” She was beloved all over the world. Not only did it cause profound grief, but it also triggered collective rage against the royal family.
The script reportedly went through several rewrites to get it just perfect. They also wanted as much accuracy as possible.
When Prince Harry’s book, “Spare,” came out, there were a couple of rewrites.
The new season begins a year after Princess Diana divorced Prince Charles. It ends with Charles’ wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles, played by actress Olivia Williams.
Peter Morgan, the creator of “The Crown,” explains there was a fine line between depicting something that may conflict with the public’s faded memories or the memories of those who were most affected by her death.
Fans of the show have been both waiting for this while simultaneously dreading it. No matter who you are or how you feel about the royals, it will be worth the watch.
