In 2016, during the filming of “Justice League,” Ben Affleck confessed to feeling unhappy and consuming excessive amounts of alcohol.
Ben Affleck Was Miserable And Drinking During The Filming For Justice League-‘Some S—ty Experiences’
According to an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that was released on Thursday, 16th March 2023, Affleck expressed that his experience of working on the superhero film in 2017 left him with a terrible aftertaste and ultimately caused him to abandon his own intentions to direct a Batman movie.
In his comments, he said: “[‘Justice League’] made me go, ‘I’m out. I never want to do any of this again. I’m not suited.’
“That was the worst experience I’ve ever seen in a business which is full of some s—ty experiences. It broke my heart.”
Right from the beginning, the production of the film was plagued with issues and controversies, including a series of revisions and additional filming with Joss Whedon, who took over from the original director Zack Snyder after he left due to his daughter’s passing.
According to the actor, playing the character of Batman was an unsatisfying experience, as he had to endure a lot of physical exertion and discomfort due to sweating and exhaustion.
He added: “That was hard. I started to drink too much. I was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, ‘This isn’t the life I want. My kids aren’t here. I’m miserable.”
In 2018, Ben Affleck, who is 50 years old, got sober after his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, who had been married to him for 10 years before their separation in 2015, urged him to seek treatment for his alcoholism and addiction.
Despite his public struggles with these issues, he has now overcome those issues. And following his recent marriage to Jennifer Lopez in July 2022, the actor prioritizes his family life in Los Angeles over taking on big film projects in far-off locations.
Affleck mentioned that he has declined offers to direct movies in foreign nations so that he can prioritize being there for his children.
His following comments confirmed as much: “These years are too important. If I miss them, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”
It is great to see Ben in a much better place and long may that continue. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
