During the Commonwealth Day service in London, a group of protestors against the monarchy gathered and shouted at King Charles III.

As the King’s coronation in the Abbey approaches in two months, senior members of the Royal Family gathered for a display.

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex participated in their last official public event as senior working royals during the annual service.

As they have relocated to the US, it is still uncertain if they will attend the King’s coronation, although they have been sent an invitation via email from Charles’ office.

With that being said, the King had gone to Westminster Abbey for a service as head of state for the first time. However, members of the Republic campaign group protested against the Royal Family during the King’s arrival by chanting ‘not my King’ and holding up placards with the same message.

According to the group, the concept of passing public office down through generations contradicts democratic values, and their ultimate goal is to eliminate the monarchy.

They advocate for a head of state who is elected by the public and has the power to control politicians.

The incident occurred shortly after the King and Queen Consort Camilla were jeered at by the same group during their visit to Colchester in Essex.

The group has increased its protests against the King in the lead-up to his Coronation in May. Graham Smith, the CEO of Republic, stated that Charles deserves to be scrutinized just like any other political figure.

He also acknowledged that the group is arranging more demonstrations against the King than his deceased mother.

In his comments, he said: “The Queen enjoyed deference and it put people off criticizing her directly. We were aware heckling her wouldn’t go down well.”

The social media response was damning. A certain subset of people called out the firm, which just goes on to show how poor the public view the current institution.

And in the process, the comments were scathing. One person wrote: “Actually they may just hate the plonker and want a different king, such as Eddie or Anne.”

While another person stated: “I would prefer to have a republic but don’t want to associate with those lefty idiots. I like sensible debate on the subject and a referendum would be a good idea. Win or lose.”
