A video of Angela Bassett’s disappointed response to Jamie Lee Curtis winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the Oscars has become popular online, with some people criticizing her for being a ‘sore loser.’
Angela Bassett’s Reaction Slammed After Losing Out Jamie Lee Curtis At The Oscars-‘Face Like A Slapped A**e’
The celebrity appeared to be quite upset and did not clap, while Curtis, who was overjoyed, shouted with excitement at receiving her initial Oscar award after many years of hard work for the movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once. Curtis’ appearance on the stage made Bassett, who was eager to win the first acting Oscar for Marvel Studio, feel gloomy.
And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media. One person wrote: “Entitlement and an assumption they have [the] right to win at these gala events has now become the norm. Must be racism,” while another person stated: “Face like a slapped a**e.”
Despite not winning the award, the fact that she was nominated for her performance in the MCU marks a historic moment as it is the first time any performance from the franchise has been recognized in any of the four acting categories at the Oscars. Not only that, but she was wearing a purple gown, as she shared her positive state of mind.
Accompanying her were her spouse, Courtney B. Vance and their twins named Bronwyn and Slater. With that being said, some fans did come out to support her. Another person stated: “Angela’s face … oh I’d be angry too if I got robbed of this award.”
There is still plenty of time for Angela to make her mark in the industry moving forward, but perhaps she needs to curtail her reactions moving forward if she is to resonate with the wider public. And that is something to bear in mind.
