Recently, Rolling Stone published an article alleging that the making of ‘The Idol’ was facing issues, to which the lead actors The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp all responded to refute the allegations.
The Weeknd And Lily-Rose Depp React After Their Show ‘The Idol’ Was Accused Of Promoting ‘Rape Fantasy’
On Wednesday, 1st March 2023, Rolling Stone published an extensive report that accused the show directed by Sam Levinson from Euphoria of having a messy timetable, going over its planned budget, and making last-minute changes to scenes that contained explicit violence and sexual content.
In the show, Depp’s character is said to become infatuated with The Weeknd’s character, who is portrayed as a proprietor of a nightclub and the head of a “cult” that Rolling Stone likened to NXIVM and Scientology.
The article that was quite lengthy presented a unique perspective from the view of 13 people connected to the show who chose to remain anonymous. These people reported that the show was characterized by long waits, financial problems, and having to reshoot scenes.
Additionally, they felt that the movie seemed to present a “rape fantasy” and a “degrading love story with a shallow meaning”. While that may have been the case, the two stars had a different perspective on the matter.
In response, The Weeknd wrote: “Rollingstone did we upset you,” while Depp remarked: “Never have I felt more supported or respected in a creative space, my input and opinions more valued. Working with Sam is a true collaboration in every way.”
The response on social media, however, was damning. Large numbers of people were of the view that the show was coming across as woke, as the comments were very brutal indeed. One person wrote: “All of Sam Levinson’s woke sorry work is like that. Extremely TOXIC.”
