On Saturday, 18th February 2023, Judd Apatow took the opportunity to criticize Tom Cruise while hosting the Directors Guild of America Awards.
Judd Apatow Slams Tom Cruise Over His Scientology Beliefs-‘What A Lunatic, I Doubled My Prozac’
The director made fun of the sixty-year-old actor due to his stature and his faith in Scientology, to name a few things. It is fair to say that Cruise’s personal life has been marred by many talking points.
Cruise is the parent of three children, two of whom were adopted when he was married to Nicole Kidman and the other is his daughter with Katie Holmes. However, both relationships ended, while the actor’s belief in Scientology has been criticized on the basis that it is a cult.
With that being said, this is what Judd had to say: “Remember when Tom Cruise jumped up and down on the couch and we all thought, “What a lunatic…The only thing he seems to be afraid of is co-parenting and antidepressants. I doubled my Prozac today just for this. I doubled it.”
The actor made his position on psychiatric medications clear, indicating that it was in line with his religious convictions. He was discussing his opinions with Matt Lauer on The Today Show in 2005 and called the drugs hazardous, but clarified that his thoughts were not necessarily the same as those of the Church of Scientology.
While that may have been the case, Judd continued to troll Cruise’s beliefs in line with Scientology. His following comments confirmed as much: “But every time he does one of these new stunts, it does feel like an ad for Scientology. I mean, is that in Dianetics?”
The response on social media was condemnatory against Judd. This was on the grounds that people felt his words had become too personal. And in the process, the comments were very brutal indeed. One person wrote: “Judd is type of smalld**k energy try to attack someone who is so much higher level than him.”
