Anyone who has been following the Alex Murdaugh murder trial will know all of the ins and outs of the case by now but in case you need a refresher, Alex Murdaugh was a lawyer himself, a member of a well-to-do family, fine, upstanding people, pillars of the community, had been that way for several generations, you know the drill. So it was quite a shock when his wife Maggie Murdaugh and son Paul Murdaugh ended up both murdered on their property.
Dead by gunshot wound, no less, and it’s a strange thing that the Murdaugh family had a lot of access to firearms, and prosecutors believe that Paul and Maggie were gunned down that least one family weapon, because found at the scene we’re S&B 300 Blackout rifle cartridges along with Federal Premium and Winchester Drylock 12-gauge 3-inch shotgun shells.
Was Maggie Murdaugh LURED home by Alex Murdaugh?
During the closing arguments of the trial, it was revealed that one of the last texts that Maggie sent was telling someone that she was currently at a Doctor’s appointment but that Alex wanted her to come home. He had just gotten upsetting news about his Dad who had just had to go in the hospital because he had pneumonia, but it wasn’t cancer.
The original plan was for Maggie to stay at their beach house, but Alex was the one who told her to come home. Some say that lure is a strong word, but if the prosecution can somehow prove that his intention was to murder his wife when she got home, then, it’s clear to see that that is exactly what he did.
The Murdaugh trial is an interesting conundrum because on the surface Alex Murdaugh seems like one of those people who couldn’t possibly be guilty, and in his second interview with police he was in hysterics over Maggie, saying that she was the best wife ever and that she did everything for him, it’s hard not to have sympathy for him on a human level. But as we also have to look at the other evidence involved.
Alex Murdaugh was hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, just one credit card alone had a limit of $1M… and Alex owed over $900,000 on that card alone. His second credit card had a limit of half a million and he owed over $400K on that card. He had a lot of reasons to bump his wife and son off, at least at first glance. Now his fate is up to a jury of his peers. Stay tuned!!!
