Man Who Shouted ‘Who Elected Him’ During King Charles III’s Proclamation Has Been Charged
Thames Valley Police revealed on Friday, 23rd December 2022, that Symon Hill had been charged with using offensive language, or exhibiting disorderly behaviour.
The allegation was related to an event at the Carfax Tower, Oxford on Sunday, September 11th 2022. Mark Beard, the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, conducted a ceremony in which he declared Charles’ ascension to the throne in front of a group of individuals congregating in the city centre.
James Fry, who is the the Lord Mayor of Oxford, was also there. In a video disseminated on the internet by Oxford City Council, it was possible to hear a loud voice from the audience when Mr Fry gave his remarks after Mr Beard performed the formal proclamation.
With that being said, it is fair to say that Charles has not had the easiest time when it comes to the monarchy. He has also been involved in two-egg throwing incidents, which just goes on to prove how unpopular he has become.
While that may have been the case, it is arguable that this was always going to be the case. After all, he was stepping into the shoes of the longest serving British monarch in history. In addition, he has been involved in scandals prior to becoming the monarch: take for example the Qatari cash scandal.
The response on social media was one of outrage. A significant proportion of people could not understand why Simon had been charged when other scandals such as Prince Andrew’s sexual assault allegations concerning Virginia Guiffre led to no prison time.
One person wrote: “Staggering that @SymonHill is being prosecuted for shouting “Who Elected You?” at unelected royal dotard King Charles. Absolutely pathetic & craven behaviour by the police & authorities.”
It is fair to say that this verdict has not gone down well.
