Netflix has revealed that they will not remove Kanye West’s “Jeen-Yuhs” documentary following his alleged anti-Semitic comments.
Neftlix Will NOT Drop Kanye West’s “Jeen-Yuhs” Documentary Amid His Anti-Semitic Controversy
Kanye, for his part, found himself making headlines for all the wrong reasons. His comments about wanting to go ‘def con 3’ on Jewish people resulted in numerous brands cutting ties with him.
This included French fashion company Balenciaga, as well as J.P. Morgan. Although that may be the case, Netflix has no intention of following suit. A representative on behalf of Netflix told TMZ the following: “There are no plans to take down its ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ documentary trilogy on Kanye’s life.”
This decision has been justified for the following reasons. First of all, Netflix has shown previously that they do not have a tendency to simply remove shows following controversy. This was also seen during the backlash that was received by Dave Chappelle and his show, ‘The Closer.’
The comedian was accused of making transphobic comments, which was even accompanied by Neftlix employees staging a walkout protest as they demanded that the show be removed.
Secondly, given that Netflix is not in business with Kanye, they felt there was no reason for them to remove the show. Lastly, in any event, as there is nothing in the documentary that came across as anti-Semitic, there is no reason why Kanye should be cancelled.
The fans on social media had a mixed response to this. A certain subset of people were not convinced that the network would maintain this position, especially if there was further backlash. Meanwhile, others praised the documentary for showing Kanye in a positive manner.
One person wrote: “Give it another few days. They will remove it,” while another person stated: “I love Netflix..remember out of Compton keep remembering.”
