Given that “Rust” is a western movie, it is appropriate that local authorities in New Mexico are reportedly telling people to pay up or leave the area. According to a statement from a “Rust” attorney to Deadline, the troubled film production will start looking for places to shoot, including Southern California.
According to Deadline, there are legal concerns, which may be the reason the Alec Baldwin western may be leaving New Mexico. The New Occupational Health and Safety Bureau fined the production $136,793 for “willful and serious” workplace infractions; the production is contesting the fine. It appears that until that problem is resolved, the production will not be able to obtain permits.
Alec Baldwin’s ‘Rust’ Continuing Production Outside Of New Mexico Despite Death Of Halyna Hutchins
There have also been claims that the production owes other parties money that is past due. Of course, there is also the tragic case of Halyna Hutchins’ accidental death from a gunshot wound. It’s emotionally challenging for the crew and the cast to return to the same place, a production insider told Deadline.
As we previously stated, the D.A. has not yet received the findings of the Sheriff’s investigation, but according to the prosecution, Baldwin is not among those who have been exonerated of all potential charges. It is strange that the film is even able to continue its production despite everything going on with Baldwin.
There is no doubt that he pulled the trigger and the fact that there was even live ammunition is confusing and reckless. When/if this film does eventually come out, I cannot imagine it doing well and many will probably avoid seeing it due to Baldwin as he continues to deny he did anything wrong. As for now, it looks like they are looking for a new area to continue filming, which from a filmmaking standpoint will probably create a lot of continuity errors by itself, not to mention the death of Halyna.
