The Mandalorian has swept Star Wars fans up in a warm embrace and returned to the kind of storytelling and spectacle fans have been wanting. With the newest trilogy garnering mixed reviews and episode 9 right around the corner, many were concerned with the change of direction and where the latest trilogy was headed. Now though, it may seem the Star Wars saga has found a new hope. See what I did there. Jon Favreau, the brilliant director behind Iron Man which began the decade long Marvel Cinematic Universe, the live-action remake of The Lion King and the millionaire that Monica almost married in Friends is now in the driver’s seat of The Mandalorian, and the ride has been pretty smooth.
Disney+
Disney+ was almost guaranteed to succeed from the beginning, bringing back Disney shows and films from people’s childhoods that may have almost forgotten. I’m looking at you Gargoyles. However, maybe the most successful thing about it so far is the original content in The Mandalorian. According the summary on IMDB, The Mandalorian is set,
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
Featuring beautiful scenery and set pieces, exciting action and a new part of the Star Wars universe to discover, it’s no wonder it’s garnered such praise thus far.
Director Jon Favreau
We all love Favreau, he has consistently directed films that everyone seems to enjoy and has been highly praised for ‘bring back Star Wars‘. It doesn’t take much to find this in the reviews of The Mandalorian’s IMDB page. Check out a handful of these reviews.
“This is Star Wars”, seems to be a consistent remark throughout. “Only negative is, the episodes are too short.” It seems Jon Favreau has done it again, and many fans are asking for him to get in the director’s chair for a new trilogy. What do you think? Should Favreau be given the keys to the Star Wars vehicle?
The Cast
I know what you’re thinking. He wears the helmet the whole time right? Well, it doesn’t hold back star Pedro Pascal from brilliant acting in the portrayal of the bounty hunter. Perhaps best known for his fan-favorite role in Game of Thrones as Oberyn Martell, Javier Peña in Narcos and in another Netflix film, Triple Frontier acting opposite Ben Affleck, Pascal seems like he was made for this role.
The Mandalorian also boasts acting titans like the almighty Carl Weathers (Predator, Rocky, Action Jackson), Nick Nolte (Warrior, 48 Hours) and MMA superstar turned action star, Gina Carano.
