Harry Styles Slams Critics Who Accuse Of Him ‘Queerbaiting’
Queerbaiting is the idea of someone claiming to be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community when in fact they are not. Such an idea could only be done on the basis of increasing one’s fanbase or trying to remain relevant.
Not only that, but this has come with speculation that Harry is simply using this as a way to profit off a certain subset of people. With that being said, Harry wanted to set the record straight especially in light of the fact that he is currently dating none other than Olivia Wilde.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Harry said: “Sometimes people say, ‘You’ve only publicly been with women,’ and I don’t think I’ve publicly been with anyone. If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re choosing to have a public relationship or something.”
One of the primary reasons why Harry has caused a stir around this issue has been by virtue of the fact that his sexuality has been a mystery. Whenever the star has been asked to address it directly, he has refrained from doing so.
Instead, the musician has made it very clear that this is a private affair, something which he does not intend on opening up about. In some prior comments at the time, Styles remarked: “I’ve been really open with it with my friends, but that’s my personal experience; it’s mine.”
The response on social media was generally against Harry. A certain subset of people were of the view that the star was deliberately queerbaiting in order to get some clout. And in the process of doing so, the comments were quite harsh.
One person wrote: “Non labelling their sexuality is the new way for straight men like Harry Styles to get away with queerbait and avoid the straight white man privilege backlash.”
