It’s been a long time since we have thought about Ivana Trump as a real media presence. We knew she was still around, but let’s face it, she wasn’t getting that much attention in the past decade, especially considering her famous ex, Donald Trump, had twice divorced and remarried different people, and had had a successful presidential run. Ivana did things, but hers was more on the quieter end of the spectrum.
She did manage to write four books in her time, “For Love Alone” (92), “Free to Love” (93), “The Best Is Yet to Come: Coping with Divorce and Enjoying Life Again” (95), and finally, in 2018, “Raising Trump: American Family Values from America’s First Mother” we just live for the way she stuck that “First Mother” title on there. Ahem.
Ivana Trump, dead at 73
Unfortunately, on July 14th, 2022, the age of “gilding the lily” as she was so often famous for, came to an end. After her home health aide and her apartment super could not get her to the door, they had to call maintenance to unlock her NYC apartment, and found her lying at the bottom of the stairs.
It was rumored that Ivana Trump, who had been selected as an alternate on the 1972 Czechoslavakian Olympic skiing team and specialized in downhill and slalom specifically, had had something wrong with her hip, and in the most recent photographs of her we do see her being assisted in walking by her home health aide. Her NYC apartment had stairs, which isn’t uncommon for NYC apartments at all, especially ritzy ones.
The coroners have ruled that Ivana’s death was the result of an untimely accident and that she died of blunt force trauma to her internal organs from the fall. Now, this isn’t an uncommon way to go for someone of her age… but social media have sent the rumor mill flying. There are people all over social media saying that Ivana’s death is a little too conveniently timed, considering the former president and his children were slated to testify before the Jan. 6th committee the very next day. Donald managed to get his testimony postponed but not his children.
His announcement of Ivana’s death on his Truth Social account was followed up by, you guessed it, a fundraising effort. While he eulogized Ivana’s character, he made sure to tack the fact that he needed money onto this post and we’re all just sitting back wondering… “Does the phrase ‘too soon’ even enter this man’s vocabulary?” because even if he meant it in the best possible way… it still feels… in bad taste, to tack that onto a social media eulogy of the Mother of your children.
