Will, for his part, had caused huge controversy when he slapped comedian Chris Rock in response to his joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. As a result, Will received a 10-year Oscar ban.
Not only that, but he has kept a relatively low profile in order to rehabilitate his reputation. But in the meantime, it appears that his Oscar-winning performance for ‘King Richard’ still managed to captivate the public.
The award ceremony was held on Sunday, 26th June 2022 during which Will walked away with the ‘Best Actor Award’ for a sports drama. Although that may have been the case, it is not surprising to hear that he did not attend the ceremony. After all, who knows what reception he could have received following his antics.
This begs the question, though, how long will it be before the actor is accepted back into the public domain? As of now, there still appears to be a long way to go by virtue of the fact that Chris Rock has not given his personal take on it in a full-blown interview.
And there is a feeling that once Chris has put it to bed publicly, then that is the only way that everybody can move forward. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media. A significant proportion of fans were outraged that Will had managed to walk away with the award.
One person wrote: “It doesn’t matter that he assaulted another human on national TV? Because, as you know, the left & Hollywood can do whatever they want! Hypocrisy is numbing !!” while another person stated: “No one is saying he isn’t a good actor, he is just a bitch!”
