The dinner is part of a wider focus on the importance of the First Amendment, as well as a fundraiser designed to generate money for journalistic initiatives. And as part of that process, a light-hearted environment is encouraged where jokes are made at the expense of the current United States President, in this case, Joe Biden.
While there are a whole host of jokes that could be made against the current president, in particular due to the concerns over his cognitive functions, the fact that Pete and Kim attended could have been viewed as a joke in and of itself.
After all, aside from being in the entertainment industry, Kim and Pete have hardly set the world alight. And yet, the couple took the event by storm. In the pictures here, we can see the pair dressed up to nines.
Kim is wearing a long, silver dress, while Pete has donned a full suit with shades. Clearly, the couple have made inroads amongst some very powerful people. Having said that, though, this is not the first time the couple have made such an impression.
They had also been pictured on numerous occasions with Jeff Bezos and his lover Lauren Sánchez. In and amongst those meetings, there was talk that Pete would be joining Jeff’s Blue Origin Flight only for the comedian to back out, as a result of problems with his scheduling.
Despite mingling with some very influential people, people questioned why the couple would be welcomed at such a prestigious event. And this was the sentiment that was being expressed on social media. One person wrote: “At the WHCA dinner? Why?”
