Will Smith has been banned for 10 years from the Oscars, as a result of his slapgate scandal involving Chris Rock.

Will Smith Given A Ten-Year Oscar Ban But Is It Enough-‘Should Be Paying For Assault Charges’

This is welcome news for those who had widely condemned the star for acting out of line when he assaulted the comedian following his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.

Although nothing can be done to erase the event from people’s memories, it is still a decisive step in making sure that Will, as well as any other people down the line, are held accountable for their actions.

In an official statement on behalf of the Oscars, a representative said: “The Board of Governors has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.”

This decision is bound to have an impact on Will for the following reasons. First of all, major directors are not going to want to cast him in their movies on the basis that they are unlikely to win an Oscar for their work.

After all, if Will is not allowed to attend the ceremony, then he is no longer seen as a viable option for directors. Secondly, who is to say that Will can be relevant after the ten year ban.

Despite the harsh consequences, this decision was welcomed on social media. A large proportion of people felt that this was only one of the things that should have been done, whilst others were of the belief that he should have faced legal consequences. One person wrote: “You should be paying for assault charges but whatever.”

If this has the impact of teaching Will a lesson, then the punishment will have done what it set out to do. Hopefully, this serves as a warning to others that this type of conduct is not going to be tolerated. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
