Comedian Tiffany Haddish has defended Will Smith after the latter slapped comedian Chris Rock after his joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith at the Oscars 2022.

Will, for his part, was outraged when Chris made a joke about Jada being in ‘G.I. Jane.’ This was on the basis that her head was bald. And given that she is suffering from alopecia, this joke did not go down very well with Will.
As a result, he decided to slap the comedian before sitting down. Although that did receive a mixed response, Tiffany felt that Will had acted admirably. This was on the grounds that he was standing up for his wife. In her comments, she said: “When I saw a Black man stand up for his wife. That meant so much to me.”
Nevertheless, Will’s actions were possibly out of line for the following reasons. First of all, he could have voiced his grievances behind the scenes. Therefore, it would have avoided the negative publicity that has emerged. This is especially since Will did walk away with the best actor award for his role in ‘King Richard.’
Secondly, there is the argument that Will’s actions could have led to more trouble. As on any other given day, who is to say that Chris would not have responded in kind. The response from the fans on social media was mixed.
A certain subset of people agreed with Tiffany’s point of view, as Will was simply defending his wife. Meanwhile, others felt that Will was out of order for being too sensitive, as well as taking things to heart.
One person wrote: “It’s really bad when women think a man needs to assault someone to “protect” them from a person making a harmless comment about their looks. It wasn’t even an insult, people. Have you seen GI Jane? She’s fierce!”
Now that this incident has happened, it is safe to say that Chris should avoid making jokes about Will’s wife. And that is probably the biggest lesson that has emerged from all of this. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this?
