‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers find that newest star Zach Tinker wasn’t quite sure what his future held when he signed on to play fan-favorite, Sonny Kiriakis for the Peacock miniseries Days Of Our Lives: Beyond Salem.
A spot in the sequel, A Very Salem Christmas followed, but as Tinker explained, he figured joining the NBC sudser was “wishful thinking”. However, “I got a call that they wanted to put me on the show!” the 27 year old further explained.
Tinker made his ‘true Days debut’ on the long running soap on March 10 and sings his acting partner, Chandler Massey’s praises (Will Horton), crediting the seasoned Salemite for the smooth transition to becoming part of the main cast.

“He is just an awesome dude,” Tinker gushed. “I mean, I really couldn’t have asked for a better guy to work with. He’s very similar to me in our interests. He’s just a genuinely good guy. So we didn’t skip a beat. Every time we work together, it feels like we saw each other the other day.”
Tinker took over the role of Sonny from Freddie Smith who decided to relocate out of Los Angeles with his wife, Alyssa Tabit Smith. The couple now live in Florida, close to family and friends.
However, it wasn’t all so new in Salem for the ex-Young and Restless actor. Tinker, who was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for his portrayal of Fenmore Baldwin in Y&R played opposite Greg Rikaart’s Kevin Fisher– Fen’s uncle. Now Tinker and Rikaart go head-to-head as once-lovers-and-now-foes, with Rikaart also returning to Salem as the deliciously despicable Leo Stark.
Along with the familiar face, Tinker is also happy to finally have the chance to ease into the character. “With Beyond Salem I was kind of thrown into it so quickly that I was like, ‘Oh, okay,’ and just did it,” he explained, “But now I’m getting some more context of who Sonny was before I came along, and what he went through.”
“Now I’m like, ‘Oh, I understand why he’s this way because this happened to him and that happened to him.’”
Along with previous workmate Rikaart and onscreen husband, Massey, Tinker has nothing but positive words to say about his new Days dad, Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) and Salem stepmom Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans).
“Everyone is so stand-up here,” he enthused. “It’s just actors who are fun and really enjoy their jobs and will play with you, and make the experience exciting. That’s great.”
