Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly made a donation in order to aid the people of Ukraine.

This news clarifies the earlier inaccurate and misinformation that had emerged which suggested that the actor had given $10 million to an organisation in that regard with claims that his grandmother was Ukrainian.
But now it seems that he has donated with reports stating he gave money to lots of humanitarian organisations such as the United Nation’s High Commissioner for Refugees and Save the Children. The exact amount was not disclosed, but in the grand scheme of things, this is hardly a talking matter.
Leonardo is known for his activism, which has most been typified by his work on the environment. He has been seen meeting with former United States President Barack Obama, but not many people know that he has actually met current Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This had apparently occurred in 2010 when Leo attended a conference with Putin in order to discuss protecting endangered Siberian tigers. Although that was a noble cause at the time, looking back, Leo will not have wanted to associate with Putin given what we now know.
The response on social media was full of praise for the actor. Large numbers of people got behind him and lauded the fact that he was doing work behind the scenes. Not only that, but they applauded the fact that the amount donated was not disclosed as it indicated he was not focused on getting publicity.
It was done on a genuine basis. One person wrote: “He’s not selfish with his money like so many Republican rich people and super-rich “Prosperity Gospel” evangelicals. Leo uses his money to do good. I applaud him for helping, too!”
It is great to see Leo giving back to the community. There was no obligation on him to do so, but by stepping up to the plate, he has shown that the Ukrainian people do have a lot of support. Whether that leads to the conflict stopping is anyone’s guess, but it will do no harm if people like Leo continue to act in this way.
