India Arie is the latest artist to speak out against Joe Rogan and demand that her music be removed from Spotify.
India Arie Removes Her Music From Spotify – ‘I Find Joe Rogan Problematic’
This is all part of a move in response to Joe Rogan’s podcast which has been accused of spreading Covid-19 misinformation.
In an attempt to get him de-platformed, several artists have demanded that either their music be removed from Spotify or Joe’s podcast be taken down.
This was initially started by musician Neil Young, but has quickly been followed up by Joni Mitchell, Nils Lofgren, and Graham Nash.
While Joe has come out and apologised by stating that he would try to have a more balanced view, it has not been enough to prevent the plethora of artists that are wanting to have their music removed in protest.
In a post to her fans on Instagram, India felt annoyed at Joe Rogan beyond just his Covid views. She said: “Neil Young opened a door that I MUST walk through.
“I believe in freedom of speech. However, I find Joe Rogan problematic for reasons OTHER than his Covid interviews… FOR ME ITS ALL HIS language around race.”
These are very strong comments indeed, but on closer reflection, it looks as though India’s comments are more directed towards the fact that she feels there is a discrepancy between artists in the entertainment industry.
Although Joe Rogan is not a musician, he is a content creator that is paid very handsomely. Reports indicate that he is earning around $100 million, as a result of his work being displayed on Spotify.
And this has not gone down very well with India, who wanted to let the world know exactly how she felt about it all. She added: “What I am talking about is RESPECT – who gets it and who doesn’t. Paying musicians a Fraction of a penny?
“And HIM $100M? This shows the type of company they are and the company that they keep.” India’s comments show that artists need to be compensated more for their work, something which Spotify would have the power to do.
