Concerning reports have emerged that a Swastika have been visibly seen in the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protests in Canada.
Reports Claim That A Swastika Was Seen At The ‘Freedom Convoy’ Protest
The protests began to occur in Ottawa in response to the increasing dissatisfaction with vaccine mandates. A group of truckers from Canada joined together to oppose the mandates that required vaccination when driving across the border to and from the US.
Although the protest was largely to express anger towards Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the very fact of the matter is that it was made up of other groups.
And during the course of this protest, Conservative party politician Michael Cooper had allegedly shown his support for the protesters. However, he did not know that the symbol was apparently visible in the background, something which he realised afterwards.
In an official statement, he said: “He or she does not represent the thousands of peaceful protesters who waved Canadian flags and acted responsibly. I stand with them and will continue to fight with them.”
This revelation is only going to work against everything that the truckers were hoping to achieve, as the movement has now been associated with extreme groups.
Things have also not been helped by the fact that United States President Donald Trump has also come out and expressed his support for the movement. After all, it is fair to say that he is a divisive figure indeed.
Much in the same way, the response on social media was mixed. A certain subset of people condemned the protestors on the basis that it demonstrated a rise in fascism. Meanwhile, others disputed whether the Swastika was in fact visible and suggested that it was something else entirely.
One person wrote: “The display of racism and anti-Semitism we witnessed by the flying of Confederate flags and Nazi swastikas is vile, violent and hateful.
“MPs who attended and failed to confront it should look into a mirror and ask themselves what kind of Canada they’re building for our children.”
If it does transpire that this symbol was present at the protest, then it is bound to detract people away from the cause, who would otherwise have shown their support.
