Sometimes it’s just best if you keep quiet, especially if there’s a major investigation going on and your name happens to be associated with it, right?

Well, Alec Baldwin did not get that memo as there’s a new report that says the Santa Fe district attorney is rightfully pissed that the actor did a sit-down interview with ABC News about the shooting. Here’s what you need to know.

While Alec Baldwin believes that it is highly unlikely that he’ll face any criminal charges over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the Santa Fe District Attorney thinks otherwise. First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said Friday that “certain individuals may be criminally culpable for his/her actions and/or inactions on the set of Rust.” This comes after Alec sat down with Good Morning America to talk about the shooting.

The DA goes on to say in part, that everyone involved in firearms handling had a duty to ensure safety and certain people may be found criminally liable for what they did or didn’t do.

“Everyone involved in the handling and use of firearms on the set had a duty to behave in a manner such that the safety of others was protected, and it appears that certain actions and inactions contributed to this outcome,” Carmack-Altwies poignantly exclaimed today, sending a not too subtle warning to Alec Baldwin and other members of the crew of Rust who are speaking publicly, either directly or through their lawyers.

Meanwhile, assistant director Dave Halls is backing up actor Alec Baldwin’s assertion that he never actually pulled the trigger, a claim that is raising eyebrows among industry professionals.

Alec said he cocked the gun, which means to hold the gun in position, that killed Hutchins but “didn’t pull the trigger.” He recalled that during the rehearsal, the film’s first assistant director, Dave Halls, handed him a revolver and told him “this is a cold gun” – an industry term for a weapon that is either empty or loaded with dummy rounds.
