The death toll is rising. There’s a new report that says a ninth fan has died after he was critically injured in the crush of fans at the fatal Astroworld festival in Houston just last week. He was just 22. Here’s what you need to know.
Travis Scott fan Bharti Shahani, who was set to graduate from Texas A&M University in the spring, died last week, attorney James Lassiter said during a news conference.
Here’s What We Know About The Latest Astroworld Death
Bharti’s relatives described her as diligent in her electronics systems engineering studies and someone who always thought of others — including that she had signed up to donate her organs when she died.
“For the first time in her life she just wanted to have fun, and that was taken from her,” said Namrata Shahani, her sister, who attended the concert with Bharti and their cousin.
Her cousin, Mohit Bellani, attended the concert too. He said Shahani had two heart attacks on the way to the hospital. “Bharti was the glue of the family. She was the super glue of the family,” he said.
Her mom Karishma Shahani called her daughter a “blessing” from God, imploring those at the press conference, “What happened to my blessing now? I want my baby back — I won’t be able to live without her,” she sobbed, saying the loss has left her “empty.”
Meanwhile, Travis Scott says he vows to help the victims of the families who had died or were left injured from his concert. In an Instagram Story posted last week, Travis can be seen pacing around and tapping his fist to his forehead while tugging his hair and saying that he was “honestly just devastated” by the incident. “I just wanna send out prayers to the ones that was lost last night,” he said. “We’re actually working now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time.”
Travis said his fans “really mean the world to me”, adding he “always just wanna leave them with a positive experience.”
He continued, “Any time I can make out anything (negative) that’s going on, I just stop the show and help them get the help they need, you know. If you have any information, please just contact your local authorities. I mean, I’m honestly just devastated. I could never imagine anything like this happening.”
