Billy Porter has apologised to Harry Styles after he had criticised Vogue for making him be on the front cover of the magazine.

Billy Porter Apologises To Harry Styles For Criticising Vogue’s Decision To Put Him On The Front Cover

The primary reason why Billy felt this way was because he had been making bold fashion statements throughout the years. Therefore, when Harry decided to wear a gown in what was dubbed as a gender-neutral picture, Billy could not understand why he was getting such praise given that he had done these things anyway.

And yet, he took back his criticism by acknowledging that Harry still had courage in acting that way. During an interview on the ‘Late Night With Stephen Colbert’ show, Harry said: “The first thing I wanna say is, Harry Styles, I apologise to you.

“It’s not about you. The conversation is not about you.” Billy clearly directed his frustrations at the wrong person. After all, Harry simply did what he thought was right.

But behind that was a whole system of discrimination and lack of equality which Billy wanted to address. As such, he felt that other black influencers who had made such fashion statements in the past were not being recognised.

In this way, Harry was inadvertently involved in this conversation. He added: “And so the conversation is actually deeper than that.

“It is about the systems of oppression and erasure of people of colour who contribute to the culture.” However, rather than expanding on those previous comments, Billy decided it was not the appropriate time to do so.

The rise of cancel culture has made stars become more politically correct about what they should say or when they should say it. However, Billy has not ruled out having such a conversation, but it would have to be at a later time.

His following comments confirmed as much: “I’m willing to unpack it sans the dragging and cancel culture of the internet because I do not now nor will not ever adjudicate my life or humanity in sound bites on social media.”

“So when you are ready to have the real conversation, call a b*tch.” If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
