    Squid Game

NetFlix’s hit TV show ‘Squid Game’ continues to face criticism in the media over the negative influence that it has on children.

NetFlix’s ‘Squid Game’ Criticised For Making Children Burn Their Skin In A Viral TikTok Trend!

The show is generally based on the principle that a group of people partake in some games in order to win a massive jackpot prize, so that they can pay off their debts. And one particular game has gone viral on social media for all the wrong reasons.

In the show, there is a game where contestants try to snap off the edges of a honeycomb with their hands so that the middle is only left.

But as part of that process, people have had to heat sugar at really high temperatures to get it at the right consistency for the challenge.

It is one thing doing it on a TV show, where people have the benefits of camera tricks or stuntmen, but it is an entirely different matter when people try to replicate it in real life.

And that is what has happened with some detrimental consequences. As such, there have been many cases of children suffering from extensive burns as a result of this challenge which has gone viral on TikTok.

In response to this trend, The British Burn Association had this to say: “Warning. Burns services are seeing a spike in burn injuries following the #squidgame and social media #honeycomb trend. Many are requiring surgery to treat.”

The reaction on social media was one of anger for several reasons. Given that these children were approaching their teenage years, many felt that their parents should have done more to ensure their children were safe.

Some even suggested that children should be banned from watching such a show. And yet, others did not take it as far as that. Some simply felt that these activities needed supervision to prevent any serious injuries.

Nora Nugent, who happens to be a consultant plastic surgeon at Queen Victoria Hospital, remarked: “Please don’t let your children or teenagers to make honeycomb unsupervised.”

The story demonstrates that the show is inappropriate for younger audiences, but ultimately, some will continue to watch regardless.
