A TikTok video has gone viral after a blind man was called out by another person on the grounds that he was lying about his blindness.

Viral TikTok Video Shows A Man Being Called Out Over Faking His Blindness-‘You Seriously Pulling Some Ableist Shit’

The victim, known as Andy Slater, was quite rightly outraged by what was going on. After all, it is not every day that someone decides to question whether you can really see.

In the video here, we can see that Andy was having an argument with the man who believed that he was not blind because of his use of a smartphone. Just because Andy may be blind does not mean that his full cognitive functions are not in sync.

That is why Andy could not help but express his grievances. He captioned the video with the following: “He is why I have no space for bullshit jokes or ignorant assumptions.

“Blind people can use technology, and it’s none of your business. My body is not your concern. Why the fu*k would anybody fake this?”

The video generated over 400,000 views on social media. This is understandable when we look at the contents of it. In the footage, the man is heard saying: “You can keep doing this [pretending] if you want to.

“It’s not going to work for you,” to which Andy replied: “You seriously pulling some ableist shit on me for saying I’m fucking faking that I’m blind because I can use an iPhone.”

The response on social media raised a major talking point: the right to have privacy over your medical health. Although the man may have been concerned that Andy was using a pretend case of blindness as a way to curry favour with people, the fact that Andy informed him that he was blind should have been enough.

One user said: “Why’s [Slater’s] blindness any of his business?” while another remarked: “Blind is a spectrum. I’m legally blind, and people don’t even know till I disclose it.”

There has reportedly been no statement in response from the man, but it does show that there is discrimination and stereotypical behaviour towards people with a disability.
